Snowkiting In Norway – Your Questions Answered!
When is the best period to come between February, March, and April?
Well, it depends on what you like. In general – you know how unpredictable the weather can be these days 😊
February is deep winter up here - the days are shorter, snow comes in powdery waves, and the wind can be strong and wild. Visibility is sometimes limited, but that’s part of the adventure. If you’re into raw conditions and powerful sessions with proper winter vibes, February delivers.
March is a snowy month, and especially in the beginning, you can expect plenty of fresh powder. Visibility can be tricky at times, but from mid-March, the days grow noticeably longer, the sun gets stronger, and the feels-like temperatures become much more pleasant. Toward the end of the month, the snow often turns icy, but the combination of light, snow, and wind makes March a fantastic time to be out there – long days, powerful nature, and dynamic conditions.
April is when the sun takes over. The snow can already be corn-like, the days are incredibly long, and the winds generally lighter. But when it all comes together, you might score a few snowkite trips you’ll never forget. The second half of April brings very pleasant temperatures, light winds, and super loooong days – perfect if you want to bring the kids along.
Where are you located and how can you be reached?
We are located in the middle of the Hardangervidda plateau at the Fagerheim Snowkiting Base.
You can reach us by taking a train to Haugastol, where we will pick you up, or you can drive directly to our base (a 4WD vehicle is not necessarily required). Both the train station and car hire services are directly available at OSL Airport (Gardermoen), which is why we recommend traveling through Oslo rather than Bergen.
You can book your train tickets at www.vy.no (tickets are usually available 2 months before the travel date). We can pick you up at any afternoon time in Haugastol, though most of our guests arrive on the Saturday train that gets in at 16:11.
What type of accommodation do you have?
We offer accommodation at the main cabin (Fjellstugu) with weekly stays. Most rooms accommodate two guests and feature various bed arrangements, including double beds, bunk beds, and two single beds. There is also 1 single room and 2 triple rooms available. At the side cabin (Oppigard), rooms are designed for multiple guests with several beds per room. Both accommodations have shared bathrooms and toilets.
At our Snowkite Camp, you’ll stay in one of the three cozy, newly renovated Norwegian-style apartments that are interconnected, creating a shared common space downstairs, perfect for socializing. Each apartment spans two floors, with one bathroom and two comfortable bedrooms located upstairs, offering a quiet retreat after a day of snowkiting. This setup is suitable for groups of friends or families, offering a communal atmosphere with shared spaces and private bedrooms. The apartments are equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi and there is also 5G coverage. Guests can relax in the shared outdoor sauna or hot tub or enjoy the common area with board games and musical instruments.
Do you offer any options for relaxation after kiting?
Yes, we do! You can relax in our outdoor sauna or enjoy a soak in the hot tub with a view of the mountains.
Extra tip: If you book one of our snowkite camps, you can enjoy unlimited access to the sauna throughout your stay.
Can I come alone?
If you’re traveling solo, you have a couple of options: be the lucky one to book our single room at the main cabin, share a room with another guest, or pay a bit extra to have a double room all to yourself…
Can I come for less than a week?
While we primarily focus on week-long camps and trips, it might be possible to join us for just a couple of days. However, we highly encourage you to come for the full week. Snowkiting is highly dependent on the weather, and coming for just a couple of days might mean missing out if those days happen to be stormy or calm with no wind. Please contact us by email for more info.
